In our continuous effort to explore sustainable transport solutions, we recently had the opportunity to trial the Volvo FM 4x2 42T GVW. This impressive vehicle was on hire from W&W Truck and Bus for a two-week period, providing us with valuable insights into its performance and potential for our fleet.

Why the Volvo FM?

Our decision to trial the Volvo FM 4x2 was strongly influenced by our long-standing relationship with Volvo. We have consistently found Volvo trucks to be reliable and efficient, and this trial was an opportunity to see if the Volvo FM 4x2 could meet our evolving needs, particularly in the context of sustainability and reducing CO2 emissions.

The Experience: Driver Feedback and Performance

During the two-week trial, Simon Walsh, one of our experienced drivers, had the chance to put the Volvo FM 4x2 through its paces. Covering a variety of routes and terrain, Simon provided detailed feedback on the truck’s performance, handling, and comfort. His overall impression was highly positive, noting that the Volvo FM 4x2 offered a smooth and powerful drive, which is crucial for our long-haul and heavy-duty requirements.

The truck's advanced safety features, fuel efficiency, and driver comfort were standout aspects that impressed Simon. The ergonomic design of the cabin, combined with Volvo's intuitive driver assistance systems, provided a comfortable and safe environment, even during long journeys.

Future Investment: A Step Towards Sustainability

Given the positive feedback and the performance of the Volvo FM 4x2, we are seriously considering adding this model to our fleet. Currently, we are in discussions with two PLC customers who share our commitment to sustainability. By investing in vehicles like the Volvo FM, we aim to reduce CO2 emissions not only for our company but also for our partners.

Expanding Our Electric Fleet

Our sustainability plans do not stop at the Volvo FM. In our pursuit of greener logistics solutions, we are currently in the process of exploring an electric rigid vehicle specifically designed for last-mile deliveries within the NP postcode. This initiative aligns with our broader goal to enhance our electric vehicle offerings and reduce the carbon footprint of our operations.

Looking Ahead: A Greener Future with Solar Power

Beyond our fleet, we are also exploring other innovative sustainability measures. We are installation additional solar panels to harness renewable energy. Additionally, we are looking into the potential of power sharing from a solar hub to other depots, which could significantly optimise our energy use and reduce our reliance on non-renewable power sources.

Conclusion

The trial of the Volvo FM 4x2 42T GVW has been a valuable experience, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability and efficient transport solutions. As we look to the future, we are excited about the possibility of expanding our fleet with more environmentally-friendly vehicles and implementing new sustainability initiatives.
